White House denies deal is near
A day after his spokesman signaled that President Obama previously indicated he would veto any short-term extension. White House Press Secretary Jay Carney, however, signaled to reporters Wednesday that the president may be willing to reverse himself if such an extension is tied to an agreement by both parties on a broader deficit reduction deal including both tax hikes and spending reforms.
